Oil Pressure

Oil Pressure
I've got a pretty simple question. What is the normal oil pressure for a 22re at cold idle and warm idle? I bought new mechanical gauges for my 87 pickup auto and the oil pressure gauge is reading 75psi at cold idle. That seems high to me. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

But does it overshoot, like for example 100-125psi at 3000 rpms..
What filter are you using, does it have an anti drain back valve, does it have a bypass, have you changed it since the initial startup and if so did you cut it open and inspect it for debris?

Oil pump relief valve
The FSM doesn't give any details on this in regards to inspection..
It might be worth checking the valve actually moves inside the pump housing.
... Your oil weight will have some bearing on the pressure, as well the climate.
I wouldn't worry to much about high cold pressure alone. As you see in the chart above around 70psi is a good result.
I would keep in mind with a tight tolerance engine high revolution could push open the oil bypass and that this is something you should avoid causing to happen.

75 psi is quite high, what does it run when warm? How long have you owned it? could you post a picture?
