Finally got around to painting. I rollied on Flag Blue from Interlux Brightside. Paint was $60 (2 quarts), roller and such was $15. It came out...well...ok. Much better than it initially looked. Pics of buildup. Some parts came out good, others you can see roller marks. Its not completely smooth...but hey, it was my first time. Good experience. My first panel was the hood, which was a mistake. I should have done the roof first, so it wouldnt be so visable and gotten the feel for the paint. Oh well, live n learn. Let me know what you think.

FWIW the truck turned out well, def thin that stuff out a bit more next time if you do it. I cant wait till I have to do it myself.

Good job. Throw a few more coats on it, then wetsand it with 1500 grit to make it all nice and smoove.

 

I just picked up two quarts of Interlux Brightside black and will be starting my bodywork/paint thread in the next few weeks. First will be fiberglass front fenders, then rear patch panels, and all the little things.

From all I read, I would use the Interlux painting thinner they sell. It should allow the paint to flow better and end up smoother, requiring less wetsanding to remove the orange peel.

But, like I said, stay tuned.

 

Not to hijack your thread but I painted mine with the same paint over the weekend. I've got some roller marks myself.


Here it is two days before I started. I had already replaced a rusty drivers side front fender and sealed up a few other small problem areas a week or so in advance of painting.



All scuffed and sanded down. I removed the door moldings, front bumper, and tail lights to try and make everything look nice. The heavy sanding down the side was where a factory decal that was stuck on with some god awful glue used to be.



Sanded my home made bumper down good to for a coat of paint.

Outside baking in the sun after 3 coats. It was pretty much dry to the touch at this point.



All done and back together. I painted the chrome front bumper black as well after giving it a good sanding and treating it with Por15.





Never did put that tailgate handle back in.

Sometime tis summer I'm gonna be doing a roller job myself, on both my rigs actually...

 

Snotrocket - How much chrome did you take off? Just enough to rough up the surface, or down to bare steel? Either way, I hope you didn't inhale too much of it. Keep us posted on how well the new paint holds up - lots of people would like to cover up their chrome.

I coated it with Por 15 as well. If you've ever used this stuff it sticks to ANYTHING and I can't imagine it ever coming off.
