Hi, hoping for a second opinion from some folks.

I picked up a '94 Gen 2 4Runner with the 22RE 5-speed and an exhaust system that was disintegrating. Since then, I've added headers and 2 1/4" cat and flex pipe that will connects to the muffler and tail pipe.

Here's the issue: I took my truck to a local shop that builds super truck rigs, dune buggies etc. because they gave me a deal on a used muffler in good condition with heavy 2 1/4" tube on the tail pipe. I decided to let them install it since, I don't have the skill to weld. What I ended up with was a 2" tail pipe that runs over part of the back suspension with less than 1" of clearance, as shown in the picture below.

Does that look like an unacceptable amount of clearance?

They never asked me about reducing the tail pipe diameter, just said the old one wouldn't fit, I agreed they should put a new one together, and they fabbed up a new 2" tail pipe with two 90 degree bends. When I asked them about the reduced tail pipe diameter, they said it wouldn't affect performance, would you agree? It's an old stock engine.

Here's a close-up of the area that concerns me.

 

Should be a higher up bend right over the axle. So, yes, the tail pipe is improperly installed.
I wouldn't worry about the diameter. 2" is fine.

 

yeah tell em that you want there best fabricator not there apprentice intern, and if you dont get the job done right you are takin them to judge judy.

My question is does it hit anything as the suspension works??

If it is not banging and clanging it should be ok.

I can`t see why they didn`t put more of a bend over the rear axle though.

Ya it contacts, I can hear it going over speed bumps. The suspension has about 1.5" travel before it starts to contact the rubber stopper/bumps in the back. I was originally supposed to get a used tailpipe that sort of kinda worked, but instead they fabbed this one out of new dynomax bends and it basically ended up the same.

 

Sometimes finding a good exhaust shop is a challenge, I'd def complain tho or fix it yourself your call

 

MOST exhaust shops in the south have what is known as a meth problem. The folks are rediculous, I actually had a guy run my duals on an old Ford "around" my front drive shaft, then tell me it would work. At least you're only dealing with a bad bend.
