Question hook on the engine

Why is there a bolt on hook on the 22re engine block? i used it to pull the motor out but there has to be another reason for that to come on every motor

They are left there by the manufacturer, because it's not cost effective to pull them after the engine is dropped in.

Ya...actually...I think it would be a real p.i.t.a to get them off...at least the one on the pass side anyway.

*Oh, I am of course refering to the 3.slow.... dunno about the 22re*

I don't think I've seen an engine in the past 20 or so years that didn't have them.
