air filters

Let me start off by saying i am a current user(on my jeep) of the K&N drop in filter with no problems...but two weeks ago purchased an '08 FJ-TT...that i love. Have been reading and studying boards about the best care for my cruiser. I was about to buy the trd cai when i began doing more research on various filters both air and fuel. I got to thinking maybe the K&N and TRD filters are just overkill. IF i was driving a top fuel dragster on 5 second runs i would need a lot of cfm going into that engine...but the f.j and even big block v-8,v-10,v-12 engines dont consume that much air. And with all the offroading fj's do...do we not need better filtration v.s more airflow. in other words the paper filters flow as much air as any f.j would need...i too found this. http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=180100 to each his/her own. just my two cents. do not mean to offend anyone...thanks.

Having used both the TrueFlow and the K&N, I HIGHLY recommend the TrueFlow. It does not get gunk on the air flow sensor like the K&N will, and the filtration is excellent!

Thanks guys sounds like a great idea. I think alot guys found out that when they recharged their K&N's they may have fouled the sensor.

K&N filters suck. They sure sound cool though... I will stick with my denso paper filter. Perhaps upgrade to a new amsoil nanofibre filter...

Wow, I have never read such bad comments on the K&N. I ran one for a while and then switched to the Amsoil. But now in my "new" truck, I am back to K&N. I know they don't filter as well as Amsoil, but why do K&N now suck?

Because they let so much crap through, that is they don't filter as well as stock.
This is well know and documented. Nothing at all new here.

I don't know why so many think that they, somehow, need to "improve the intake flow". We're talking about an engine that moves as much gas (air) as a gnat fart.

TrueFlow is the best filter I have ever used, night and day difference from K&N, my throttle body stays clean!!! ...and that's just highway driving. I clean it every 10K. Get a TrueFlow, you won't be disapointed.

Stock fuzzy filters work surprisingly well. Get the debris trap from the new FJ offroad package if you don't already have it.

Im pretty darn sure they do Us 3vze guys are outa luck though

The reason K&N filters suck.... hold it up to light, yes you can see light through it... Im sure dirt will find a way though them gaping holes!

Not worth the 1hp gain for a shorter engine life..
