Talking Getting Those Pesky Suction Cups to Actually Stick!

I have a GPS that I choose to mount to my windshield. However, the weight of the GPS makes it so the suction cup falls off after a day or two. This is doubly annoying because not only does it set my alarm off, it opens my GPS to possible damage from the fall. I have looked on the web for some possible solutions, but some don't work and others don't suit my taste (hot gluing it). For those of you out there that have devices that are held by a suction cup to the windshield, you have probably shared in my frustration with this issue.

So, after playing around with different things around the house to try to make it stick better... I think I came up with a good one. So far, it has held for 2 full weeks now with no signs of coming off anytime soon.

OK, you take some normal household oil (Wesson/olive oil/etc) and put just the smallest drop on the suction cup. Spread it around with your finger. It might look like it's drying up, but it's not. Now, affix it to a clean section of your windshield. You will notice that it may slide around a bit. This is actually OK... better to position it EXACTLY where you want it. It should stick quite well after it "sets" and should wipe off with ease when you go to take it off.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please post them here.

Good idea. My 8500 falls off alot in the extreme heat or (relative) extreme cold. I will give this a try.

licking the suction cup and applying it to a clean windshield should help also.

I used to put up the number at gas stations and the words up on a store sign.. that always helped

This is one of the methods that I tried that maybe worked for 2 days at best before coming down.

I've used clear hardening silicone with great results... the silicone easily comes off when you want it to as well with a fingernail or razor blade etc.
good luck,

I've used lotion in the past. Works pretty good. My V1 stays up with just spit, though.

I've never wanted my GPS on the windshield for two days, and never for two weeks. It seems like car-prowler bait to leave it on there when you aren't using it.

Mine is only on the holder when I'm in the car. I remove it but leave the suction cup on the windshield.

It rubs the lotion on it's skin or else it gets the hose again!
