Im thinking of taking my 4runner's front sway bar off. Im definitely keeping the rear one on. but what should I expect from taking the front off other than more body roll? is it worth the extra flex?

 

I would say yes. the body roll is hardly a burden and the better ride and flex is worth it.. just hit the trail last weekend ran the same exact route as before only this time with no sway bar. It made enough difference for me to throw it in the trash.. plus on road it lets the front suspension act even more independently on each side giving a much smoother ride..

 

atleast you guys don't have sway bar laws like WA does...

 

I hear about a lot of stupid WA laws on here. NC sucks for trespassing laws and anything related to having fun. SC is awesome... no inspections etc. Powerline easements are fair game...
As for the swaybar yeah throw that thing in the trash. Or fab up some quick disonnects for it. Buddy of mine did that for his cherokee

Ok cool. Im gonna disconnect it when I get home, see how I like it more flex + better ride is always a plus. its not like im in a race car and need to take turns at 30-40 mph anyway.

 

Dude, its fine. The PO of my '95 took BOTH off. Thats pretty sketchy. It leans like a mofo, but its not THAT bad. Just dont take turns fast. With both mine OFF, I WILL NOT take turns faster than 25. usually around 20. Flex wise- IDK. I guess it helps.

 

well I read some of the threads on the site already. everybody say its worth the flex/ride vs body roll on the front but its not worth it on the rear of the 4runner because the extra body roll vs the flex of taking both off is not worth it. so i think im just gonna go with the front and call it good.

 

i have seen these body flex on a lifted toyota while he was making a left hand turn. look kinda scary if you ask me

 

my truck isn't lifted though. and even when i do lift it, it'll only be 1.5-2.0 inches.

 

Yeah dude just do it. I got a 3rd gen, but I've had mine off for a while and barely notice a difference on the road at all, even when turning sharp

 

Search this topic. Quick discos are no more than $20 to make and they allow you to retain the on-road benefits of a swaybar. Rear swaybar MUST stay on IMO.

 

Well, I took my sway bar off this morning. I like it... took it for a drive after I took it off, it really doesn't lean that bad and the only time you can notice is if you make a fast movement with the steering wheel. Heres some pictures I took and some lame jack-flex shots lol

im going to folsom lake later today... so i'll test it on a stump or rock there.

 

Now I'm not saying this for all cars. But on these yotas the sway bar is more or less for saftey. Just like you all know it helps stabilize body roll on tight high speed turns. IT just helps it from rolling.... Usually the mounts on them break anyway from service and just toss em or weld them.

 

take them both off, rear wont do any good with out the front, I drove a 1/2 ton full size chevy with out either one and was fine

 

^^^^^ WRONG!... esp don't remove the rear if you tow stuff. Buddy of mine removed his rear and was towing a truck on a dolly. Jackknifed the trailor because of crazy body roll around turn.(trailored vehicle was strick orv with rear swaybar removed as well)

 

I have the front removed, i can barely tell there is more body roll, only when turning REALLY fast or having to change lanes REALLY fast on the freeway, but i still havent gotten close to rolling it.
Funny thing is, i take corners faster now because its fun and scares people haha.

And i wouldnt remove the rear, the body roll up front feels like the front end is really dipping down, if the whole rig did that then it would be sketchy.

 

lol im not removing the rear. I only removed the front and im keeping it that way... I like the way it feels, not too bad body roll and its alot smoother.
