Best way to check exhast manifold/train leak?

Pretty sure I have an exhast leak either somewhere near the beginning of the exhast train or the exhast manifold. Usually I'm pretty good bout honning in right on em, but this one's a slippery little wraskle... So whats a good way to find out where it's leakin from, short of buyin one of those expensive harmonics detectors lol...

Kinda hopin that its the manifold and not my still fresh off my bud's new mandrel pipes, cause then I'll have an excuse to splurge for some headers

Stuff a rag in the tailpipe. It will increase the exhaust pressure and make the leak louder.

Water and HOT exhaust probably aren't the best combo. Leak may be hard to see with all the steam.

Urg... Rag in the tailpipe didn't help too much, and hot water and soap couldnt penetrate my awesome layer of impenetrable caked on and baked into basically a brick coating around my exhast pipe and manifold lmao... Off to the car wash I guess

my muffler shop had to reweld a spot they missed. w/the acetylene torch on and car running, the annoying leak was easy to locate and fix. HTH.

Lmao... Ok, well, I think I found a substance harder than steel. After soaking that damn manifold and pipe in engine cleaner for 15minutes, then trying to spray it off with the high pressure water, the repeating 2 more times, all it did was define the cakes of mud even more! ARRRG! It's like the mud has become one with the truck.... Hmm, so you say it could be from the bolts bein a little loose? Maybe I'll go try and tighten em up... Anyone know what size they are?

At lease my engine is nice an purdy again. Haven't seen my purple block in a lonnnng time lol.

Ah well, looks like I'm missin a bolt. In the picture, see on the top right bracket, where there's usually three? The third to the right is missing. That and one bolt on the left side was loose, so I tightened that. Then on a whim I tested the valve cover nuts, and they weren't even hand tight. Tightening those few nuts on the manifold and on the valve cover seemed to help a little, but I think once I get that other bolt from autozone or somewhere, it'll pretty much eliminate the leak. Anyone have the number for that bolt? Would greatly appriciate it
