arb kit question

not sure if this belongs here, BUT...

Do all ARB kits come with the compressor and necessary parts for installation? I am looking at getting a whole lotta parts in a month or 2.

5.71 gears
rear spool
winch

I want the ARB for the front, but with the $950 price tag, if I have to piece together more parts... I don't think it will be worth it. If I end up not getting the ARB I will be getting a detroit for the front.

950?

Where are you shopping?

My rear was 700 + shipping from PORC. Front was a deal on ebay.

In fact, here you go. Should run you right around 40 or so for shipping.

You will have to buy a compressor seperately.

However, if you buy the compact compressor:

http://www.performanceoffroadcenter....oducts_id=1062

One last thing, you will need to buy a bearing kit, I'm fairly sure, since you have a 4cyl 8"diff. It can be found here:

http://www.performanceoffroadcenter....oducts_id=3215

Now, that site says you need two. I only purchased one, so I would call ARB and find out what the deal is there. Normally, the Airlocker comes with the air side bearing, but not the other side. You would need this for the other side.

So, assuming you still only need one, and assuming 50 or so for shipping with the compressor added, by my addition, you are at:

700 air locker
140 compressor
30 bearing
50 shipping

TOTAL= 920 dollars. Better than the 950 you thought you'd be at eh?

Also, that will be everything you need to do the install. You'll have all the wiring, switches, locker, hoses, everything.

If you need the other bearing, you are right at 950 bucks.

I was looking at 4wheelparts...I get wholesale through them, so 950 is their online price.

Well, I'd call them and see if it includes all of the stuff I posted above.

If not, go PORC! LOL

Would something like this -On Board Air - do well with the ARB locker as well. I need something to air up the tires after a run as well. I had a PowerTanks and it was lifted out of my rig, with the hard top on, so I want to stay away from things that aren't bolted down.

Sure, but you'd have to build or buy a manifold for the air lockers.

Air lockers MUST be run at 90-100psi. Less and they don't lock, more, and you blow seals in a hurry.

But, do that, and you are set. Many, many people run arb's with both CO2, and OBA. Just has to be regulated properly.

out of curiosity, why are you running a spool in the rear? I know that it's probably for budget, but an aussie or lockright is only slightly more, and will at least give you SOME respite from the wonders of a locked rear.

I've gone back and forth on locker or spool. The aussie is only a little more expensive and that has nothing to do with my decision. I want predictability and since it is only driven on the streets when I feel like it or need to get to the trail it seemed like a better option. There are less parts to break than with a locker and it will give the ultimate in predictability. I would love to have an ARB up front but I think if I go that route I won't be able to get it for quite some time and I don't want to have to redo the front end twice. I need to get the gears done soon and I can get the gears/spool/detroit when I get back to my truck...

I would go with the ARB compressor. It comes with the wiring harness for all the switches and solenoids, and makes install SUPER easy.

Call 4WheelParts - they will do WAY better prices than they publish online, especially on package deals.

Note that Genuine Gears are now made by Richmond, which is likely to be what you get if you order "Yukon" gears.
