22RTE Celicas?
OK, there's some disagreement as to whether 22RTE Celica's exist. I've heard them mentioned here, and the yahoo group mentions them aswell. but none of the wikipedia articles list them, and I've been talking to a few buddies in the subaru world that claim they don't exist....and I've been unable to find solid evidence either way...
anyone know for sure?!

never heard of one.
I did some research, and it seems in the US, the first turbo Celica was the alltrac in 1988, which had the 3SGTE.
In japan their celicas diddnt have the 22r, and the 84 turbo model in japan had the 3tgteu.

There was never a factory celica with a 22RTE in america. In 1986 they switched to the front wheel drive celicas, and they came with a 3sGTE option starting in 87 methinks? All-Trac 4x4 celicas were turbo.

The 22RE appeared in only 1 year of the Celica: 1985. Pre-85 they had the 22R and something else(with a DOHC). In 86 they switched to the 3SGE.
I'm sure there are some 22RTE Celica's out there, just because Celica guys mod as much as we do. Hell, once my 22RTE pickup is done, I might go ahead and turn the 20R in my 78 Celica GT into a 20R-T...I got left over parts.
While we're on the topic of 22RE Celicas...how come they get a better engine compartment layout? The 85 Celica has the airbox on the right, and the battery on the left. So no intake air being routed infront of the hot engine first.

I KNOW someone referred to a factory RTE somewhere....in a context worth trusting....maybe I just misunderstood or something.

But, that appears to be the consensus on other places as well....so I believe you, this time
