What tranz gear oil???

Just getting into this 88 4runner i got

Is there a quick how-too on manual transmission fluid replacing??

I need to know WHAT oil to run when its COLD in winter
VS
WHAT oil to run in the summer months

Only asking as the manual that I ordered from the steelership is still NOT here..

22re
5speed manual

I am asking because when the truck is cold it wants move forward from fluid dynamics internal to tranz.. I am assuming that someone has the wrong viscosity in there..and I dont know what the specs fluid is!!!

You could always call the Toyota service department and ask them?

Per Chilton manual, fluid recommendations GL-3, GL-4 or GL-5 with viscosity SAE 75W-90 or 80W-90. Use the lighter weight for the winter. Arguably the best for cold weather is synthetic fluids. How cold does it get where you live? IF it doesn't get TOO cold, then don't worry too much about not using synthetics.

Only reason I am asking is it was -15degF today
and the trans seamed to want to drive the truck forward even in neutral..
thanks for the GL + 75-90

The key point is to use a GL-4 and not a GL-5, which can be problematic for the transmission's brass/bronze parts.
