What gears should I run for 35's

I have a 90 4runner with the 3.0 v6 and automatic trans. It is all factory with the t-bars cranked sitting on 33's it and struggles with them. I am looking into lifting 5 inches and putting 35's.

A bigger question is once everything is said and done, what's the goal of your 4x4? Mostly daily driven or mostly off road? 5.29s will kill your top end if your doing a lot of highway driving.

I don't see why people think that. I've daily driven on the freeway with 5.29s and 36s also with 35s now my speed is 71mph at 3000 rpm and I can go 100mph if I want so what's the big deal with losing a couple mph on the top for more get up and go.

Yup, 5.29s + 35s will get you back to factory gearing, so will not effect your top end at all. Plus, I don't think I would want to take a 20+ year old truck past 120+mph anyways.

Mostly a daily driver. I do go off road some I need it to have a little more power to pull a boat and not have to put so much strain on the truck

Incorrect.

He will see improvement from his stock gears and 33's when he goes to 35's and 5.29's.

Check my build thread. Massive Northern Canada road trip fully loaded with camping gear and a roof top tent and I could still pass people on the highway and cruise easy. I also get better mileage after I geared to match my tires.

My other bonus is my spedo is accurate. I also daily drive my 4Runner.

How do you plan on getting 5" of lift? I have a 3" body lift from the PO and I can't wait to get rid of it.

You will need a tube bumper up front or big trimming to clear the 35's.

I plan on doing a 5 inch suspention lift. I already did a little trimming to clear the 33's. I'm not even scrubbing with them.

It's the wider arc the wheel moves when steering. They self trimmed the rusty bits off my fenders.

How are you lifting the front 5"? Long travel kits or SAS?

Sounds like you have a plan. Let's read it and see some photos!

Good luck and welcome to Yotatech!

Look at the Blazeland Kit if you don't have a Total Chaos budget.

I was seriously considering it.

Tires measure a true 34.25", 4.88s, L52 5 speed, speedo is nearly perfect. Within 3 mph at 65. I would only go to 5.29s if i was going bigger than 35s. i always felt like i was overgeared for my 33s on the highway. My .02.
