tune up and suspension help needed

I have a 1992 Toyota pickup 2wd 22re (2.4) recently got it running after it sat for about three years

It idles perfectly and runs perfectly however it will surge 2-4 times after I come to a stop before returning to idle? I've included a list below of all the parts that have already been replaced thanks

Fuel pump, Fuel sending unit, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, fuel injectors, water pump, radiator, thermostat, all new fluids, new serpentine belt, mass air flow sensor

The suspension is also shot all the way around and I cant find any packages that include shocks with about a three inch lift that I can install all at once. I have read something about IFS. Do the 2wd models have that? also if anyone knows a good way to put about a 3 inch lift on the truck or a site that sells a kit that would be very helpful

thanks in advance

could be a broken timing chain guide or you could have a valve adjusted improperly

There could be water in your gas. I'd run a can or two (not at the same time) of Berryman's Chem-Tool through the system. This stuff works wonders for cleaning out a cranky fuel system.

If lifting your shocks is absolutely necessary, this comment won't help. But I recently went through a similar project to yours. I selected the KYB Monomax shocks, and I'd highly recommend them. I was worried that they'd be too stiff, but they are perfect, and give a very controlled ride.

I presume you mean the engine surges when you push in the clutch to come to a stop? Could be a vacuum leak, or AFM issue, or idle circuit problem? If it's an automatic, it could be a converter un-lock issue, or a down-shift problem, though I am not schooled on Toy auto trans.

See if it does it without pushing on the brakes, as you're coasting to a stop on a lonely street.

As far as suspension, OME or Iron Man systems are good. If you want cheaper, lots of Pro Comp, Skyjacker, Rancho, "fits-everything" type systems have 2wd options. If you want to spend a lot, check out Total Chaos or Blazeland. I am not very familiar with the IFS systems, or 2wd either.

Its a manual and it surges with or without clutch engaged not as badly when clutch is out though and stops for the most part whenever you come to a complete stop and put the parking brake on

yes you have IFS (independent front suspension) but you dont need longer shocks if you are just planing on lifting with cranked torsions bars or balljoint spacers because you are not increasing the overall distance between the upper shock mount and the lower shock mount. also the amount of wheel travel is staying the same, you are just moving the set ride hight. there is a whole section for 2wds and we put together a list of ways to lift them in a sticky thread. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f212/

Messing with the timing chain guide is a big fat pain in the ass. How many miles does the truck have?

I'd also still recommend a can or two of the Berryman Chem tool. It costs about $3.50 per can, and it's great for cleaning out a fuel system.

I'm glad your problem seems to be fixed.

Checking to see if your timing chain guides are broken is easy, just take off your valve cover and look down into the front where your timing chain is and you will be able to see your guides. If you can wiggle your guides at all one of the two is broken, and if not replaced can lead to a costly fix. It is a very common problem because when people replace them they put oem plastic parts back in it, you should replace them with heavy duty guides. Its not a super complicated fix, but is a very time consuming one.

X-2 on timing chain inspection. It's supper easy to inspect and will let you know right away if a head gasket/timing chain is in your future. It's not super hard if you have to do it. Make sure your really organized and bag or label all your parts and bolts. Just read and ask as many question as you need. Start a build thread for yourself. It sounds like your going to build it up a little. Some guys might dog you a bit for a 2wd but most of us appreciate a nicely built 2wd. Take lots of pictures.
