truck only turns over half the time

ok, soo up until a week ago my truck would start up and run fine, its a 1988 22re 4runner i used to have a v6 runner and at one point in time i had to change out the 80 amp black fuse under the hood, but i never realy found out what exactly that controls, because now i just found that same fuse in my current 4runner completely smashed off of where the other fuses are, kinda like someone took a hammer and hit the fuse and the plastic casing it sits in broke off of the rest, but anyways for the last 4 days now its only been starting up everyother day ???? what the heck could cause that, any help would be awesome and if anyone could tell me what exactly that black fuse does would be aweomse thanxs for your help.

Mine was doing the same thing until i put a 12v 20amp relay in that is activated by the original starter circuit but delivers power direct from the battery to the spade terminal on the starter. the original starter circuit had for some reason lost it's ability to pass thru enough juice to fire the starter. but still had plenty to fire a smaller relay. oh well, it work's not a problem since.

Quick check you can do:

And easy enough to replace the solenoid contacts, that is the common problem.

If it is the contacts they are super easy to replace. I don't feel good doing any more than changing my oil yet I accomplished it in less than 2 hours with only basic tools.
