Starting Issue

I had a 92 pickup with the 22re that had the same problem but i have recently traded for a 95 4runner with the 3.0 and i havent had a single problem out of it and i went outside today and it wouldnt crank. when i turn the key over all the gauges work as well as the light and the battery has good charge. and i pulled my mustang over and hooked the cables up and that didnt do a thing. all it does is click and wont turn a lick.it make a clicking noise around where the ecu is. now that pickup i had did the same thing but if i played with it for a little bit it would crank but i want to know what could be doing this becuase im about to sell it and dont need any issues. any help fast would be great. i dont know if this is common or not. thanks guys

Costs about $10 and 1 hour of your time to fix. Hardest part will be taking the starter out and putting it back in, follow the link 4crawler posted.

It'll take less time to fix it than it will to "finagle" an alternate solution. Get the contacts for the v6 starter btw (they're the ones that have the extra little tab sticking out) they last way longer. You can also get a new plunger if it's needed, but if you can find someone with a lathe who can clean up the contact ring on it, it'll last you another 20 years.

Tap it with a hammer to get it started for the time being.
