Should I get new tires or switch to ARB Locker

I have full time locker in my rear axle. Would I be better off buying new tires or replacing the locker with an ARB? My vehicle is a daily driver 88 4Runner with SAS currently on 38.5's

How much could you make off of a used full time locker, and what's the state of your 38s tread wise

A Detroit should unlock around turns etc. unless you have you foot in it around every turn.

Just coast or drive easy around turns, parking lots, etc. I have to get on the skinny peddle more than normal going in a turn to make mine lock up on pavement.

I ran a lock-rite in rear for years, once I was use the the difference in driving with it it was fine. But I needed a neck brace if my wife drove. I got a good deal on a used ARB. If I was only driver I've not have switched and spent money elsewhere.

I have a detroit in the rear of my truck and have not noticed any abnormal wear.

Heck I'm still on the same Wrangler MTR's I bought back in '07.

I ran a Detroit in the rear of my old 85. Worked great zero complaints. If letting off the gas doesn't do it for you feather the clutch to help kill the chirp. Up front is where an ARB or selectable locker really shines. Lets you have open front for street use and lock it up tight when you went too far and need everything available. Good tires with a rear locker make a big difference.

I used to run a Lockright rear , I now have an ARB . Selectable is nice , but I really had no complaints with the Lockright . If you dislike the Detroit because it locks up on when you don't want it to , then an ARB or E-lcoker will make you happy .

To answer your question , I'd get tires first , most people seem to really like their Detroits...

Curious as to why you're thinking of ditching it .
