Removing the bed.

I am going to be removing the bed of my 1989 pickup so I can access the fuel pump (rather than dropping the tank). I also plan to adjust the emergency brake while the bed is off and replace the muffler / cat (it's easier like this I assume?)

What other maintenance tasks are easier when the bed is off?

Pickup is not a 4Runner.

It's a pickup, hence the removable bed. I'm a newbie. So many models, so much confusion. This is what the VIN search said

07/1989 TOYOTA 4RUNNER TRUCK (RN101L-TRMDEK)
DLX JPP CND RCB T1 22RE EFI MTM 5F CBU W

I understood the post. I've never taken the bed off a truck for repair work. It will all be much easier, especially if you are welding the muffler etc.

I have pulled beds and dropped tanks.
it isn't bad dropping a tank with a transmission jack.
personally I would rather drop the tank.
why would you need to pull the bed to adjust the e-brake?

My tank is full of gas, would it still be easier to empty and drop? I don't have to remove the bed to adjust the e-brake, I just figured it would be easier to access this way? My truck is parked on a rocky/gravel driveway and getting underneath can be a PITA.

Clean the frame out. I start at the rear of the frame and work my way forward getting all of the dirt out with a high pressure air hose and then flush it out with a water hose after getting dirt out.
