Possible Transmission issue?

I've got a 87 4runner(22re), it has about 240,000 miles on it. The engine was rebuilt about 60,000 miles ago(clutch was replaced), as far as I know the tranny is original. I noticed the other day that when parking on a hill with any incline, if I put the truck in 1st it doesn't stay still. It kind of buckles down the hill. Same thing happens if I have it in any other gear including reverse. Any idea on what that could be? Thanks for the help

Im going to guess that the clutch is slipping and allowing your 4Runner slip backwards, thats the only thing i can think of.

Now that I think of it, that does make sense. I just figured since the tranny had so many miles on it that it might be the issue. What clutch kit is best for the 22re? I've got 32 inch tires, and I do some moderate off roading in Colorado.

Talking to my buddy this weekend he thought it could be the syncro's in the transmission. Does that sound plausible?

its either a worn out clutch or pressure plate, you should be using your ebrake or i got a friend that carry's around a tire chock for those situations

oh and it cant be the syncros cause once the gear is engaged the syncro has noting to do with it staying in gear or slipping what so ever

Awesome, thanks for the info. I do use my emergency brake, I'm just worried that if it fails when I'm parked that the truck will roll. Looks like I'm going to buy a new clutch! Thanks again

I'd make sure and do it right and get a new pressure plate too, because they do wear too with the clutch, might search around here and check out what people have upgraded to there's a lot of info on your year trucks.
