It would help is you post the year and type of rig. Check that there is fuel in the tank, fuel filter clean, fuses good, then check the fuel pump. It is pretty rare for the mech pumps to go bad. Now if you have a elec., that is another story

Is the truck turning over? Have you tried using starting fluid to get the fuel to the carb? Did you put the hoses in the right order on the fuel filter? I did that once.

Don't buy just any manual, get a factory manual for the exact year truck you have. I believe you can check your fuel pump to make sure it is working. I just can't remember how and I don't have my manual here at work.

81 22r has a mechanical pump, its on the front left (if viewed from front of truck) of the head It only works when the motor is cranking over, or running. I'd recommend checking the hoses going into it, they should both have a trace of gas in them if its working properly.

Hey Summer,

Welcome to Yotatech, Rowdy is right about the pump.

You can check it this way: disconnect suction line from the pump, thats the line from fuel filter/tank, hold Your finger over the now open fuel pump fitting, then have some one crank over engine.

You should have a light vacum pulse at the fitting while cranking, it actually sucks fuel from the tank. If You dont have vacum, replace the pump.

Thanks Kiwi

My 82 has been driving me crazy. I just got my new weber carb kit today, so hopfully it helps my trucks issues. It used to run great. Then It was not holding fuel when it would sit for a few days. So I rebuilt it and then it would not idle. Then it would not start at all. I am just fed up with it, so I ordered a weber and we will see how it goes after I get it installed this weekend. Check for vacuum leaks. I think that is my problem, so I will get rid of them all when I swap the carb. Your just up the road, we should go wheeling sometime.

I see you have it on CL. You interested in selling the bed toolbox? Parting it out? I could use the bed, doors and some other random stuff. If I had the extra room to park it I would buy it and part it out.

The kit was 279 shipped. Were you planning on using it as a DD or a trail rig? How is the rust?
