New guy looking for advice
Hello my name is brian i was Hoping I can get some help with a choice on a 95 ext long bed 3.0 v6 5 speed 4x4. Blown head gsk. Motor is out and apart, everything else is there. Clean truck and is free to me if I want it. Question how hard is it to put back together and would I be better off doing the 3.4 swap now to prevent a long term headache. How much is involved doing the swap and money. Thanks for your help and any information will be helpful.

Welcome!
As for the 3.4 swap there's an entire section on it. Read through there.
Putting the 3.0 back together is fairly simple if all the parts are there and in good condition. Probably cheaper do keep the 3.slow if you can do a quick inventory and have most everything. The FSM and Haynes can be easily obtained and have step by step with pictures for a complete assembly and disassembly.
Hope that helps.

always cheaper and easier to rebuilt or drop in the existing motor.
3.4 swap is a little more involved but the result is pleasing.
If you're worried about future headgasket issues, Get ARP head studs and MLS head gaskets from LC engineering. problem solved.

Might be the same money wise to do a 3.4 swap vs rebuilding the 3.0 depending on how you shop around and what you can do yourself. I believe mine cost me about 900 dollars. Some have actually made money from the swap by parting out the donor vehicle they bought for the engine.

Comes down to what your skills are. One persons easy is the next persons impossible.
Putting a engine together you did not take apart sucks Been there done it would not wish it on anyone.
Do you have a place to work where you won`t be rushed ??
The tools to do what you need ??
I gotta say I do like my 3.4
How much is in the budget since you get the truck gratis??

i s the 3.0 that bad of a motor all I'm using the truck for is a daily driver camping rI not going to be at a hard wheeler maybe just play in the snow in the winter. the only reason I was thinking of doing this walk is because I don't want to replace the head gasket every 1to 3 years.

Some down right hate them Some love them
I never owned one myself.
Worked on quite a few.
Like was said there are ways around the head gasket issues.
It comes down to what you want and can afford and if your paying someone or doing it yourself.
Cost wise to do it right the 3.0 might be cheaper but not by much.

I plan the doIng the work myself either way I just don't want to fix a head gasket and It go out in it fix it again and come to find out the cost was just as much as doing a swap. if ARP studs and good head gaskets the "FIX" to the head gasket problemthen what are the benefits of the 3.4 over the 3.0 other than no head gasket failure

So my dad picked up my 95 yota and said the 3.slo and trans with transfer case is in the bed of the truck. I talked to a guy in washington that dose 3.4 convertion sand said he will do the compleat swap with a rebuilt 3.4 for $3000 drive it away. Is this a good price for a fresh 3.4 swap done for me?

So I've been looking around and haven't found a steady answer on the 3.4 swap. I have looked around and found a used 3.4 compleat with harness and accessories. The questions I haven't found the direct answer to is on the swap dose the crossmember have to be modified? Do I have to have a body lift? And do I have to drill and tap a new dipstick? I know the wiring is the most pain in the a$$. I have not priced a rebuild on the 3.0 I have but if I can do the swap and not have the truck down for a long time then I may just do it myself, is there anyone in washington state that has done the swap maybe show me a thing or two.

You have read through all the 3.4 swap section??The answer to your questions is maybe it all depends just what your working with.
Then when buying a 3.4 most often plan on doing the timing belt.
I think doing the wiring is the easiest part of the swap.
