Need reman 3vze in Alaska

Hello
Long time reader, first time poster. I am the proud owner of a 1995 4runner limited with worn-out main bearing, among other engine problems.
Because of my location (and limited mechanical skill) a rebuild is not possible.
I had planned on getting a long block from orient engine but they won't ship to AK. The only place, so far, that is willing to ship to Alaska is www.toyotacarpart.com.
Does anyone have any experience with these guys or does anyone have another suggestion for a place that will ship up here.
Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

No experience but have you tried a Toyota dealership if you have one in Juneau.

Go with Orient Engine and just have them ship it to AML in Seattle. NO ONE will ship it to Juneau properly. Just call AML and tell them you're going send an engine their way and they will take care of you. VERY, VERY easy.

What color is your rig, I've probably seen you around

Lol, a great idea, unless you've been to our dealership (we only have one). The sales manager was my landlord when we first moved up. is all I can say.

Thankfully the Subaru dealership just bought the Toyota/Honda dealership, but not everything has been fixed yet.

What about shipping from Anchorage? There's also a Toyota dealership in Kodiak. Is it possible to ship things on the Alaska Marine Highway ferries?

You can have vehicles driven on the ferry by ferry personnel for a 100 dollar fee, but they don't do general cargo. You'd have to find someone bringing a vehicle down for that.

Also AML (Lynden Transport owns it) ships more stuff out of Seattle than Anchorage so the prices are lower. Plus the price of a new engine from Kodiak would be higher thanks to the price of shipping it up to Anchorage.

Shipping it out of Seattle is the cheapest by far.

The only annoying thing about AML is they don't do consolidation of packages. I was going to order a set of tires from Tirerack.com and they ship by FedEx. If all 4 tires didn't show up in the same truck, they were going to charge me 40 bucks per tire (that's thier minimum rate).

If your only shipping an engine, it's not a problem.

Thank you everyone for your help! I will most-likely go with orient engine. They initially refused to do business in Alaska but with some coaxing have now agreed to ship to Seattle. They have promised a quote by tomorrow morning. I'll post updates as the situation progresses.

Erich,
The truck is actually in interior Alaska at my parent’s house. I’ve called Lynden transportation and they will ship up there for roughly $300. I did have it here in Juneau at the beginning of the summer. It is a metallic beige limited and the body was in great shape. I’m stuck driving my old off-white ’90 22RE pickup until I get this one fixed up.

Thanks again for your help.

Good to hear! It has taken me FOREVER to finally find out how people ship stuff up here. The old-timers have it all figured out but you have to practically pin them down before they tell you

Wish I could say we have extream cold up here (actually I don't ) , but we don't . Anchorage gets colder and Fairbanks is even colder than them. Heck, the midwest gets colder than we do.

We did break our all time record for snow with over 200 inches last year Our ski resort was on top for the most snow at ANY resort in the WORLD.

What we have here is RAIN. We get 40 days of sun here on an average summer

The 4runner is my 3rd Toyota, my first being a first gen 4runner, the second is my '90 pickup. I had the first two when I lived in Fairbanks and they were phenomenal in cold weather. I did have a headbolt heater, oil pan heater, and battery blanket on the first two trucks. The three heaters pulled about 1300 W which got pretty expensive. The first gen 4runner also had an autostart which was killer on those cold mornings....

Also, I did get a quote from Orient Engine this morning and they're charging me $2099+$425 for the 3VZE shipped to Seattle and Lynden estimated that it would cost about $250/$300 to get it from there to where the truck is.
Given the situation, it's not too bad I'll be super happy when it's done.

Ok, the engine has been ordered. The people at Orient engine are super helpful and flexible. $1995 for the motor plus $425 core charge. They're paying the shipping to Seattle and only $115 to ship it to Anchorage.
$2535 plus install isn't a screaming bargain but not too bad for Alaska.
Does anyone have any words of wisdom/caution regarding installing the engine?
