Header on a 22r

My truck is all stock, and I'm thinking on putting a header in it, but will that mean I have to get a new intake? As it is my intake relies on my exhaust to get that hot air in the intake. Is there a way I can bypass the EGR and stuff like that?

Basically I'm just looking for some recommendations on what I should get and the best ways to do it.

Yes you can get rid of all of it. Just cap the egr and lose the exhaust tubes. Im running a Hooker Header. Got it from Jegs. There are pics of it on my build thread. My truck runs awesome with it.

So if I do that am I gonna have to modify the intake at all or what? I just wanna know what modifications I might have to make. I don't wanna get it all in and then find out something is wrong.

No....I didnt have to touch my intake. I did no mods. Only thing I had to do was grind down the top of my upper A-arm a bit cause the header is a tight fit. Other than that no mods were needed at all.

STAY AWAY FROM PACESETTER HEADER AND EXHAUST! Cheaply made and it will not last.

Here is what I did and it was a great combo with excellent results. I used a Downey header, 2.25" exhaust all the way back, no cat and a Flowmaster muffler. Stock carb and air cleaner with a K&N. Stock ignition and advanced the timing up 4 degrees. Used a TRD stage 1 cam (Crane cam actually) and installed it straight up. I put in the gears after I did what I mentioned above and holy crap what a difference!! When I first did the mods and it was great and noticed a difference then I put shorter gears in it and the truck moved. I could pass cars on the highway in 5th gear and go up steep hills in 5th as well. The TRD stage 1 cam is discontinued I think and if you dig hard enough you can find a used one or maybe even a new one. Mine was actually a Crane cam but Crane made the cams for TRD. Check all the Toyota truck sites and also check the Celica forums as well.

It is one, thus "header", singular.

LCE.

EGR is not all bad. Helps with fuel mileage at cruise speeds by recycling unburnt gases, and lowers combustion temperatures to prevent/reduce NO gases. The downside is it builds up carbon in your intake and may rob some extra power.

Some header manufactures have the EGR holes in the flange to mount the tubes and keep the EGR system. Block off plates cover missing EGR parts for those who choose this route.

Tri-Y header, 4 into 2 into 1, [three collectors] has the highest recommendation. They are similar in design to a stock manifold as opposed to a full length/ long tube header with a 4 into 1 collector.

High rpm driving mandates max flow, full length is all you. A broader power increase across all rpms is what the tri-y claims, without the Wide Open Throttle perk.

Noise is also an issue. Totally preference. No cat, free flow muffler, and shortened tail pipe is loud.

Well for me my hooker header is good. I love it. 1 3/4 tubing and 2 1/4 exhaust no cats with a flowmaster 44. Sounds awesome!

Im not too crazy about fuel economy....doesnt bother me too much even though its horrible.

But as far as having to mod the intake....no. Other mods...no. only problem you should meet with installing only a header is fitment. They never seem to just slip right in....atleast not with any i have ever dealt with.

Thanks for all the help guys. Now I just need some more recommendations on where I can get the best deals. I have wanted to put a header in(thanks for the correction) for a while now, just wasn't real sure.

EDIT: Also a concern for me is most of the descriptions on seller's websites concerning headers say that a header will add power along with sound. I'm wondering if the power thing is something that's noticeable or not so much. It really won't affect my decision much, I'm just curious because everyone can always use a little more power
