Hard starting 3.0 4runner.
After weeks of trying, new fuel filter, fuel cap, pre start injector and finally a new fuel pump I changed the coolant temp. sensor and all the problems went away. Now I have lots of spare parts (about $4oo bucks worth) and a new 43 dollar sensor was my problem all along. When I unplugged the wiring I found the sensor was broken at the base causing no connection. Always consider this overlooked part as it is very much a part of the fuel system. It ties the pre start injector to the ECM and if its not working the pre start injector wont either. Hope this helps somebody. P S. cut a hole in floorboard over fuel pump, replaced the pump and covered the hole with a coffee can flattened out and silicone to the floor. Why Toyota didn't think of this is a mystery. Good luck.

Wolf, on my 92 4 runner with a 3.0 the COOLENT TEMP. SENSOR, not to be confused with the water temp. sensor for the gauge is located at the rear of the engine between the head and the firewall. There are 2-4 sensors in a row and its is usually the green one. As I said, this sensor loops in the computer to tell the pre start injector how much fuel is required on start up based on coolant temp. not the engine temp. Changed mine out and the lil goat starts first try every time now. Hope this helps. Ox
