Gears gears and more gears with 33's

Ok... So I finally was able to find a good deal on some 33x12.5 tires!! Oh ya. Haven't put them on yet for a couple reasons. One, I don't have the time to mess around with them to get them to fit yet b/c I need to drive it and I figured I may as well regear at the same time or close to it.

I'm not to familiar with the gearing in the trucks, so if anyone has seen good threads/articles on it I'll read away. I did a quick search and found bits and pieces and it seems the stocks may be 4.10 and a suggested for 33's would be 4.88's.

The rig will be a dd, but won't travel long distances too often as I don't have to drive far for much. Although, it would be nice to have it geared for economy, but I'll make that decision when I know more about it.

to see what gears u have u can look on the inside of the door and it gives u a code and u can see what gears u have, yes for 33s best would be 4.88s but also 4.56 are not bad idea too. if u plan on going any bigger go with the 4.88s if u dont then 4.56 wouldnt be too bad too. i have 4.56s in my 4runner and will be getting some 33s on it soon. right now im running 31s and at 70mph im at about 3gs and lots of power. but thats just my thoughts.

How much of a difference, at highway speeds, would I be looking at with 5.29's from 4.88's in case I want to get 35's in the future?

here is a good gear calculator to play with:
http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html
allows you to input tire sizes, gear ratios etc

Wink Gears gears and more gears with 33's

Pretty sure my 97 4runner has stock gears, 4cyl / 5 speed , turning 33's is awesome for the first 3 gears , 4th gear is useable most of the time, but 5th gear is down hill only, with a tail wind !!!

Been running 4:10's with 33's for a year now and it's really not that bad, although, my engine is in good shape with a EB cam and Weber carb for a little extra oomph. Don't do much highway driving, but when I do, 5th is flat or downhill only and I'd better be hittin 65+ before I shift into it!
