Factory 4.88 question

Well I was at the pick and pull yesterday and happened to stumble on a 94(?) 4runner with factory 4.88. The pick and pull wanted 103 with tax for it and the only reason I didn't snag it is because I was not sure it would work. It was a v6 diff but had what seemed to be a vacuum or electrical plug on the top of the diff, I completely forgot to snag a picture and I tried to search and see what it was at the junk yard but it got late and I left. Any idea what this was could it be used in my 85 pickup?

That thing on the diff you're talking about is for the ABS in the 4Runner... There is a thread on here on how you can plug it for a non-ABS toyota. Other than that it's a direct swap AND the v6 3rd member is stronger!

I say you snag that 3rd as soon as physically possible! EVERY Toyota in the pick-n-pull's that I've been to (both in Washington and Oregon) has had the 3rd members pulled, ESPECIALLY if they were 4.88's!

I think the real question you should ask is "Should I send the front 4.88 diff to 93Xtra-Cab, free of charge?"

The answer is "yes".

I went and pulled it today that damn yard couldn't keep the vehicles and closer to the ground but I got it , there were two other toyotas with 4.56 with the diffs still in too ill have to get another one for the front ASAP, they don't seem that popular here as none of the toyotas had there diffs pulled

Just curious what state your in? here in southern NV the 3rds get pulled real quick! I found a 4runner with 4.10's I came back the next day and they where gone. I hope to someday find a rig with 4.88's. I'll never go shopping a t pic a part again without all my tools to pull em!

Also fyi I pay 86$ per diff here. Is that a good price?

I got a hold of factory 4.88 gears from 95 4runner i had bought wrecked. I put them in my 89 pickup, front and rear. Worked great. I did however swap the a.d.d. part of the 4.88 front diff with my manual hub 4.11 diff to make a manual hub 4.88 diff. Other then that no hiccups. Both vehicles were V6
