ect pwr light, manual trans

A couple of days ago an orange ect pwr light came on my dash of my 4runner (92 V6 5-speed). I tried to find out more about it and found that it stands for electronically controlled trans, and most people have a switch to turn it on and off, like an overdrive right? Well, I can't seem to find a switch or find a reason a manual trans would even have this. Anyone know what this means?

ECT changes the shift points for the auto.. so either you have a truck that was 5sp swaped or you have a short in the dash to cause the light to come on...

Is there a way to tell? I.e. A sticker on the door or anything?

while exploring the option of a short, I noticed the ect pwr light is also illuminating the corner of the check engine light, and when I try to put on cruise control, the check engine light comes on, illuminating the corner of the green cruise light. Would it be possible for the plastic in front of the lights to be offset and its actually a cel showing?

Look under the console in front of the shifter but kind of under the dash, see if the computer for the automatic is still there, if it is unplug it. The reason your truck has the ect light is because at one time it was an automatic and then a 5 speed was swapped in, i know this for a fact because my 86 4Runner was an automatic and we did a manual swap on it, and it still has the ect light but it no longer works.

So I just checked to see if that light would flash trouble codes as a cel would.... And it did. It flashed code 21, meaning the o2 sensor or ecm. Does anyone think the ecm could have an issue, resulting in the light mix up, and possibly give and explanation to my chronic high idle issue?
