does it fit into a 1985 4 cyl axle

i have gear problems does the 6 cyl gear fit to the 1985 4 cyl rear axle ???

Yes, but you need to verify axle ratios beforehand. 1985 was either 4.10 or 4.30, and V6 thirds had many options.

I would stay away from the stock 4.88 third. Its offset, so you can never change your gear ratio or add lockers IIRC.

WOW REALLY!?!?!?!..you cant regear stock 4.88's?????..jeez didnt know that..but i guess since i dont ever plan on running anything over a 35..i should be atleast a little bit ok..and i'll probably do a diesel swap eventually..

kinda weird..why cant you regear stock 4.88's??????

The cases are offset. The gears are thicker to accomidate this, where aftermarket gear sets are not designed for the offset case.
