Catalytic converter info needed

Hey everyone, I was wondering if anybody knew the size of the three way catalytic converter on a 1988 4Runner 22RE. Some tweeker stole mine and my emissions are due pretty soon. I heard their was two different sizes that went on this engine so to get a replacement, I need to know.

It would be really helpful if anybody can give me this information.

I've always been confused as to how they get away with crawling under a truck and stealing a cat... I've even seen them cut off!... I mean, how friggin loud is that at midnight?

Anyhow, to answer your question, there's a junk yard in Mesa that has (or had?) an 88 4runner not too long ago.. it was pretty picked over, but it's worth a shot.

You might have to take it to a muffler shop depending on where exactly they cut. Getting a replacement cat the oem size wont do you any good if they cut a couple inches off each side.

Exactly! Plus, most shops will give you a deal for having them do it. I saved around 30$... They said, "what did Napa want for the high flow one?"... I told them, 180$.. they said, "How bout 150$ plus blah blah blah for installing the whole system from the collector back?" I said, "SOLD", lol.

Believe it or not they prefer stealing ones that are bolted on. And YES, I agree.... ISN'T THIS LOUD AS HELL? Maybe they have a wheel/pipe cutter, to keep the noise down? CRAZY, especially in CA, where they can get up to 150$ for some CATS!

Yeah, I wish I was one of the 'OTHER' STATES in that "Shipped to 49 states.... NOT SHIPPED TO CALIFORNIA", HAHAHA. I shopped around as best as possible, and 150$ was actually a pretty good deal for a High Flow CALI CAT, lol.

"three way" doesn't mean 3 openings (get your mind out of the gutter, i'm talking automotive here). it means the cat creates three chemical reactions. it takes carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, and nitrous oxides and converts them to carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water.

and i got a magna-flow online for like $80 shipped. only problem is that it's 4 inches too short. grrr. i'll have to fab up an extension
