im planning on lifting my 87, im getting a 2in bj spacer with diff drop, and sway bar drop, and 2 new shocks, but i dont know what for back, i may just leave it, whats yalls opinion??

 

AAL, do not do blocks.......... In the end its the best choice, good luck. And welcome.

Longer shackles would be better than both the blocks and the AAL. AALs are stiff and W your leaf springs after a while. Blocks cause axle wrap and look tacky. Longer shackles are the best thing to do other than buying brand new lift springs. The only downside is that if you go too long, your driveline angles will suffer causing vibrations from your U-joints. They do, however, make alignment shims to go between your leaf springs and rear axle to correct your driveline angles. Take a look at 4Crawlers website. You'll be amazed at the quantity of information.

 

or should i just get a 2in body lift,? my truck just has 31s and i just was i bit more gap between tires and fenders

 

A body lift wont help your suspension. Youll still have a saggy butt.

i have a 2in AAL to match my BJ spacers and it sets level. After a few years though, the add a leaf has twisted my springs a little because it started to slide in the pack. Im about to do a SAS and gonna run stock leaves out back with a 3in block. Then after I break those springs, Ill buy aftermarkets. Hope this helps

People will say that the AAL's will cause the springs to fall apart and they will say that the AAL will really limit flex.

Regarding the falling apart springs, 2 years and 50,000mi later they are still just like the day I put them in.

As far as the flex goes, you be the judge;

 

surprisingly enough, it doesnt sag, it sits pretty level now, i just want more space in fenders and im kinda on a budget still being in highschool, and this is the best pic i got and the back end is slightly down hill, no sag

 

It does look like it leans to towards the passenger side. Could just be how its parked.

I came here to post this.

I ran AAL for a couple of years. Then one of the added leaf springs broke, separated from the rest of the pack and shredded the sidewall on my tire. So I had to take them out and go back to butt sag.

I'm going to do the Zuk mod this time around.

 

There's nothing wrong with blocks so long as they're made of steel. THOUSANDS of blocks installed on trucks from the factory so they obviously aren't that horrible. Long shackles are hard on springs and mess with your pinion angle. Also the longer a shackle gets, the more beef has to be built into it. Nothing wrong with any of the three methods IMO. A properly assembled pack with an add a leaf is just as safe as any other spring too. But yeah, you get cheap spring pins, use a bolt instead of a pin, under or over tighten them so they break and yeah, it'll cause ya problems.

 

ive ran a block on all 3 of my rigs, beat the snot out of them, and havent broke a thing or had any problems IMO....
