Air conditioning smells like an old sock

Does anyone know the true tricks on how to get rid of the smell from the air conditioning in a 2000 4Runner?
Just bought the truck two days ago, very happy with it, but it is forcasted to be 108 this wednesday.
Thank you for any information,
DGLane

The cabin air filter probably is real dirty, and smells like it too. My 4Runner's air quit stinking after a while...but you may want to change that.

In my mothers 94, condensation would build up somewhere, but I dont remember where... another thing, her drain boot at the evaporator shroud in front of the firewall would clog up, also causing smells... dont know if the 3rds are similar in design, but its another thing to check.

I saw a post on here a long time ago that said to spray Lysol directly at the base of the widshield "on the inside" with the air/ a/c on high. Apparently the intake for the A/C is there and it will draw the lysol into the system and kill the mold growing in it.

I wasn't aware that 2000 runners had cabin air filters?

Here are some tips to find and fix the source of the odor (not a Toyota in the writeup, but the same ideas apply):

Just have to make sure your drain isnt clogged and if you want the smeel to go away. you go get a can of lysol spray, they make many different scents including a non scented one if you like any of the scents they offer. you spray a bunch in where you recirc is or turn on fresh air with the fan on high and spray a bunch through the vent between the hood and winshield. It will kill off any bacteria that might form from water sitting, so the air will be healthier to breath and it will also smell a whole lot better.
