Adjusting the idle on an 86 4runner

hey i am new to the forum and have a question for you all i have an 86 4runner and it seems to be idleing extremely fast. it is idleing at like 1500-1600 rpm and it seems to be awfull high. being fuel injected i dunno if it is adjustable? when out idleing around at the local offroad park or in parking lots or whatnot the truck wants to go like 10 or a little faster just idling in first gear. i dunno thought i would drop a line!

thanks

Idle speed is adjusted with the large screw on top of the throttle body. Turn it in to slow down the idle speed (cuts the bypass air flow down).

i dont know if it was right or not but i loosened the nut up on the little screw with the allen key in the end of it. i ran the screw up just a little and tightened the nut back up. this screw stops the throttle linkage when it comes back down to idle. went from 1500 to 800. is this about right i think it sounds good to the ear anyway..

thanks again

also i noticed that there appears to be some type of??? it looks like a inline filter on like a riding lawnmower hanging off of the same place i adjusted the idle.. there seems to be a vacum line coming off the bottom of were the throttle rests when put my finger on it it is sucking air. i dunno if it is supposed to be there of hooked on somewhere? anyone have any idea? this is an 86 toyota 4runner.

I'm pretty sure that sucker just hangs there. I have the same thing on my 88.

well aint that sweet haha i just wondered what the hell this was???? and how it worked with the throttle i thought it might be for the fast idle like when you first start it then it idles down or something to that affect.

thanks

That's the dashpot. When you completely let off of the throttle, it's made to slow down the butterfly in the TB so it doesn't just slam shut, but gently close.
