95 4 runner No start

Howdy folks. Heres the story, my amogos girl friend had a 95 runner with a 3.slow init. Said 3.0 broke the belts, her Dad started working on it, got the belt replaced and stopped there, the truck sat this way for a year. I finally asked if they wanted to sell if for a couple hundred bucks, I got it. So now it back in my garage, top end is all back together but the engine wont run. It will hickup and we got it to run for a few seconds but it will not run or start correctly. What are the common culprits on these things? I have a chiltons but it is pretty vague for a no start/ hard start problem.

HELP!!

I'm going to say timing although the post is very vague. What belts broke? Timing belt? If it was the timing belt, how was it reinstalled? Was the FSM procedure followed?

Its not the timing.

And sorry, by top end I ment the intake and vavle covers. For the life of me I cant figure out why he had the vavle covers off.

Im wondering if I have a fuel problem.

Belt. As in timing belt.

Started to look at some of the alarm hack job under the left kick panel by the fuses. What a night mare.

Think I need to focus to see if Im getting fuel. Is there an access panel to pull the pump like sone SUVs or do I have to drop the tank??

Again, I'd check the timing first.

Believe me, it's easier than you think to mess this one up a tooth or two... even if you've done them on other vehicles. This one takes a bit of patience and double checking.

i might be wrong but if the belt broke it could of bent valves, so u might not have good compression. i wouldnt pull the pump from the tank yet, check the tube from intake to the air filter and make sure its on good with no open spots, it is sounding more like u have a cold start or timing off issue...

if u are not able to get it going by wend, i offer my help seeing i can figure out what is going on. i work up in that area,oh and i know how to deal with alarms...let me know

Non interference engine. Shouldn't be the valves.

Always remember with old toyotas

Timing Chain = Interference Engine
Timing Belt = Non-Interference Engine

Much appreciated Justin. The timing is the one thing Im rock solid on, double checked, triple checked and since I was doubting my self so my amigo quadruple checked it for me.

After chatting with my buddy from whom I got the truck from Im now even more suspect of the alarm rats nest. He said his girlfriend had had problems with it starting due to the alarm system. Im gonna tinker with it and see if I can remove it, solder the cut wires back together and go from there....now all I need is time.

Can you find a part number on the alarm? Usually, the kill switch won't even let the starter engage. So it's interesting that it will actually let it crank.
