87 four runner transfer case not engaging

87 four runner transfer case not engaging

I have a 87 runner automatic the front axle is good spin one tire the other spins backwards the shaft turns out the transfer case linkages are moving but no 4wd stumped

clean you asin hubs, there dirty, mine did the exact same thing, takes like a hour or so

He said when he spins one wheel, the other goes backwards. So the hubs are engaging.

OP Can you shift the transfer case into 4wd?

Is there a body lift on the truck? Maybe the transfer case shifter is hitting the body?

x2, if your turning one wheel and the other side is moving then the problem is not in your hubs. And since your driveshaft is also turning, the problem is definitely related to the transfercase.

You have an open differential. That is quite right for the tires to spin in opposite directions.

Sounds like you broke the chain. Pop the shift cover and verify both shift rods are forward, that will be 4Hi. Now assuming you have both front wheels off the ground, and the rears on the ground the front driveshaft should be locked up and the front wheels will turn in opposite directions. What were you doing before you noticed?
