3.0 engine install?? how hard?

how hard would it be to install a 3.0 engine in a 92 4x4 pickup? or is it something that should just be taken to a shop to fix?

any suggestions would be great!

Thanks!

I think you would be better off dropping in a chevy V6 or a yota 3.4L than bothering with the 3.slow.

As for difficulty, dont expect to do it all in a weekend and it will take time to get it all working right.

go with the 3.4. All the reading I've seen this is the best. Just a FNG trying to help.

You might get a bit more help if you explain what you are trying to do.

For example...

Does the truck have a 3.0 that is currently no good and you happened to come across a better running 3.0 for a good price (like free)... and maybe you want to swap it in.

If that's the case, I think you will find the job fairly involved but with careful notes, a few photos and some good tools I think most mechanicaly inclined individuals could tackle it... with patience.

But if you are looking at installing a 3.0 with dreams of power, performance or better MPG, then I'd stick with what the others have suggested and look into many of the 3.0 swap options instead... escpecially the 3.4.

Total lie, the 3.0 is a very good motor when taken care of. it just lacks power and gets so so mpg's.

All this talk about the 3.0, I'm not sure if it's true. I don't do any serious offroading and I have so many tickets I don't go anywhere fast anymore. All I know about the power of that motor is that my 89 pu pulled my father-in-laws dually and a panel van out of 15 inches of snow 2 years back, so i think it's got some heart.

The swap isn't tough, as I just pulled that motor from my truck and dropped it in a 4runner (just had a baby, needed a family car), wasn't as tough as I expected and I am no mechanically inclined. I had the help of my father in law who is really good, and as long as you are okay for some headaches and bloody knuckles, it wasn't bad. took about 3 weeks of working about an hour a night. make sure you mark everything bc the only PIA was the air intake chamber and all of the vacuum lines. put it in, get it running, then take it somewhere.

Good luck
