well i had an exhaust leak for a long time and one day my check engine came on and then i noticed my header bolts were loose so i tightened them and the check turned off. so then my truck started this whole lag thing then my check turned on a week or so after the lag started and i thought well its gotta be the leak so i fixed the leak last weekend but the check engine light is still on and it still lags so now im going to pop the valve cover and check the timming though im not sure how it would jump because the engine is fully rebuilt 80k ago and when i last poped the cover the chain was nice and snug and eveything looked great. i also just did my rotor and cap and changed oil. i guess i will check the charcol canister too but what am i looking for in it?

jay what is the TPS? lmao im goona guess its the little valve box thing on the airfilter?

thanks for the help guys

Throttle position sensor. ITs located on the side of the throttle body.

www.4crawler.com has a good writeup on how to test it, you can also use the FSM. You need a digital multimeter and some feeler gauges. Might have to pull the TB off, I had to on my 3.0 to gain access.

and do pull the code(s)!

the one you jump is under the hood on the passenger side next to the fuse box i think, if its the same as the 89. there should be a diagram under the hood on the sticker that tells you what pins to jump.

Well we are talking used

But like I said, we have SO many toyotas around here that prices have to go down (or im just cheap!).

I believe you can get a AFM from a 82 (I think) supra thats a little big larger then stock..
