22RE Motor Rebuild HELP?

Hey guy's need some advice. I had a mechanic that I knew do a rebuild using my existing block well the motor that he installed on my truck seems really weak in the Power department so I think something is wrong.

What are my options as far as checking how much would a typically well rebuilt 22re motor dyno at and how much HP/TQ do they put out.

Also would adding a cam help I already have Dough Thortley Headers/Exhast and 4.88 gears as I am running 35" tires with a 7" Suspension Lift.

Help Please.

22re
~112 hp
~142 ftlbs torque

with 35" tires, you may want to regear to 5:29's as that would get you closer to stock. You will see some gains with the cam, but more so, the cam will move the powerband. I have the egnbldr 261 crawler cam with the street rv head on a rebuilt 22re bore .020 over an I personally feel a pretty nice gain in power. As far as checking your rebuild, start with a crompression test and go from there...

Well after talking with LC Engineering for like an Hour I think I will save up and do the 22RE EFI Pro Stroker Long Block but instead of ordering the whole motor from them just order all the parts and use my existing longblock and I will have a good motor to tow as I tow our family boat quite often.

What do you guy's think would this be a good idea I would also use their Pro Cylinder Head w/Camshaft but for low end power especially.

Save your money and buy a tow rig. 35" tires and 7" susp lift with a 22R can barely get out of its own way and stroking a 22RE is like using air freshner at a hog farm.

what he said ^^^

if you still are wanting to build a long block, lc is expensive, I have bought alot of parts from them but only specific ones. As far as the head, check out engnbldr.com, good heads and cams, lc header, and re gear, you will notice a nice increase

Well all those Ideas are great but why buy a used cheap tow rig when I can use my Toyota as my boat only weight 2500lbs. And besides I am restoring the truck to like new standards and already spent more than I would like to post on here. So are Lc parts good quality as I am getting a pretty good deal on everything shipped.

Thanks

Squirrels are still squirrels. Doesn't matter if they are fat squirrels or hairy squirrels. In the end you are just going to end up with an expensive hairy fat squirrel that has eaten all your nuts.

Flush your money down the toilet. You'll get more HP out of it.

^ I'm going to use this one later in life.

I wouldn't tow with something that I'm "restoring to like new standards". That's just me.

I see I am debating that also as I don't really want to put more $$ in it if I don't have too. So what do you think of a used 1999 Tahoe 2dr 4X4 118000 miles second owner as a tow vehicle only.

Depends how far you tow, how much they want, condition, all that. Just expect the tranny to fall out in 22,000 miles IMO.

Put a tow hitch on your STI, that will pull a boat.

Yes you are right but I sold the Sti so that is not an option at this time.

Well I will see the Tahoe tomorrow but I did not know they had such weak tranny's.

So any Tow Rigs that are Cheap and reliable like 5K and under.

Thanks
