22re idles but dies when driving
Ok. So the truck ran and drove fine until last Saturday. it will idle fine and rev but put it in gear it will move a couple feet then die starts right back up but dies as soon as you give it gas. Turn the key off for about 30 seconds and it will idle fine and rev. It's a 93 22re 4x4 5 speed. I've changed the head gasket, fuel pump, water pump, oil pump, and a full tune up all done about a month ago. I'm new to the 22re and have no idea what could be causing it any help would be great.

You changed the fuel pump not the fuel filter??
On the Check Connector jump fp and B+ just to see if that solves the stalling issue That bypasses all the fuel pump switches .
Sounds almost like the fuel pump is shutting off for some reason
Depends just what brand fuel pump some are rather poor.
It is possible the fuel injector cleaner broke all the deposits off the fuel lines and clogged the filter.
Causing pressure to drop low enough the injectors will not fire.
Since all this started when the cleaner was added .

Thanks for the reply. I've tried jumping the terminals it didn't help any. I didn't think of the injector cleaner cleaning the fuel lines and plugging the filter. I was going to change the filter Friday to see if that helps any. Would the filter cause it to stall and die just under load? As long as I don't try to drive it will run and rev just fine.

I had an 87 runner that had a bad level sending unit in the gas tank so I planned on dropping the tank. I had to drive it a little so I put like two gallons of gas in it and a couple miles later it started bucking and bogging down, no power off idle. When I dropped the tank it was all rusted out inside and I guess putting a couple gallons on a near empty tank stirred it all up. The rusty debris was so fine that it actually made it past the filter and into the injectors, which clogged them.

recently I troubleshot a fuel pressure regulator that was bad out of the box and it was causing a hard start problem. I put a pressure tester rented from the local parts store in place of the cold start injector. Jumped the fuel pump check in different combinations with pinching the rubber fuel lines before and after the fuel pressure regulator. By pressurizing the system, pinching the rubber line and removing the jumper to shut off the pump, I was able to determine the pressure regulator was releasing fuel pressure after I shut the pump off.

Is there any way a short in the wiring for the speedo could cause it to die? My yota was driving good yesterday with the speedo not working then when it started working the truck started bucking and died. I'm at a loss I have no clue what could be causing the problem

Probably. You're on the right track but I wouldn't leave the line pinched for more than a minute during testing. Get your hands on a fuel pressure gauge man and do real testing. Alternatively the pressure regulator is like 100$ And may or may not fix it.

I have a fuel pressure tester but I have no way to connect it to the banjo bolt on the cold start injector. I was thinking about universal adjustable regulators with a gauge. If I bought one what type of fitting would I need to hook it to the fuel rail?

The kit I rent from the local parts store has the bolt to fit the cold start injector. The bolt is hollow and drilled to let fuel into the gauge. I really encourage you to look at one from the parts store because I have no idea where else you'd get that special bolt. The one I used is similar to this
