22r carb issues

I just finished rebuilding a stock aisin carb for my 86 22r truck. Prior to rebuild I was having issues with the electric choke closing when I would shut the engine theoff when the engine was warm and I'd have to manually open it to get the motor started again. Other issue I was having was that when I was approaching highway speeds (particularly in 4th gear) I was getting garbage acceleration and alot of sputtering when I would floor it and I was getting God awful fuel mileage as well (probably around 8 miles per gallon). Figured a carb rebuild might solve these woes.
i just finished the carb rebuild and installed it back into the truck, went to fire it up and after about 10 seconds of cranking it fired but I had to promptly shut it off because the rpms were increasing out of control without my input (pretty sure this is an issue with my throttle cable, as I've had this before the rebuild). After that I can't seem to get it to fire up. Just cranks forever and at times it seems like it's about to start, but never quite gets there. Looking down the barrels, the one on the driver side I can see fuel having poured into the barrel (not sure if this is normal or not), and there doesn't seem to be any fuel in the float bowl. It definitely smells like it's just flooding like crazy but I can't be certain that's entirely the issue. Where should I start with troubleshooting this and getting back on the road?
