22R or 22RE?
Ok, I have an 84 toyota 4x4. The guy I bought it from said the engine was the 22re out of an 81 toyota celica. Now on the tapetcover it says that it is a 22re but it has a carb on it. I ordered a water pump for an 81 celica but it has 8 teeth instead of 6 and it won't spin when installed. I found out that the 81 celica came with a 22r engine. I also found out that apparantly the E means it's fuel injected. So now I am confused. How can it say on the top 22re if it has a carb? Is this possible? How do I know what it truely is and what it came out of to know what to order the parts for?

The valve (tappet) covers are interchangeable between 22R and RE. I think some of the heads would accept either fuel injection manifolds or carbed intake manifolds. So you could have an older RE (fuel injected) engine with a carb. You could have just an older RE head. You could have a complete 22R (carbed) engine with just an RE valve cover. You really do need to find out what you've got, and what year exactly, before you can order parts for it. Got photos? Hopefully someone more knowlegeable than myself can help you narrow down the year and model.

Ok, now if you have a carb on that block, then you do not have a 22re (fuel injected), you have a 22r(carbureted). Now to clarify things up, what I am guessing the previous owner did, was swap the the 22r out of the celica into your truck, this is a 22r because toyota didn't introduce the 22re(fuel injected) until 1985. All the guy probably did was buy a 22re sticker and slap it on the front of the 22r, you can buy them anywhere.
By the way.... WELCOME TO YOTATECH!
