OK, I promise to play nice...now, So I'm going to be MUCH MORE specific. First off and to clarify I did do a lot of prior investigating, before I came here. According to my research, that includes 3 different "Toyota FSM" downloads from 3 different sites that are actually the same PDF files mostly about 1995 backwards to 1990, hard to be sure in actual use. They all claim to be about a 1990 4 runner, one from this site BTW. Now looking in this manual, it appears my wiring harness splits to go over the back window, down to my left tail light, around to go to the tailgate for the window and lights, and another part goes over the top of the rear window. It also appears that the right side tail lights are wired on a different loom. I have also been to the local library to avail myself of the 2 manuals available there,. Not to mention the hours I have put in on this infernal computer researching the tail lights on a 1990 4 Runner. I even had my buddy's (he maintains all our vehicles) Garage Computer for crying out loud. I have yet to see a wiring diagram that looks like anything I see talked about here. While I appreciate the idea that all Toyotas are similiar, in real life this does not appear to be the case. From what I have read, the 1990 4 runner is almost a stand alone, that is to say it is not like the other models. Some parts may be some are not. OK...now it must be said that while I was no stranger to 40's, thru late 60's cars and trucks, I pretty much only work on Briggs and Kohler's now. Heck, my last truck was a 1995 Jeep, and the trailer kit for that was easy-peasy.
Anywhooo, I know I can figure out the wiring problem, that's not the hard part to me, the hard part is where is the best place to add in the converter, and what is the best way to get to the right side tail light. Now I suppose it's almost like but different to any other year, but a '95 is gonna be different, and an 85 is gonna be different and I'm not messing with one of them, I'm working on a '90 4 runner, automatic v6, moonroof, outside spare tire yada, yada, yada

see, I can play good with others

Curt does sell a harness: http://www.towready.com/content/prod...05&part=118379

As does hidden hitch: http://www.carid.com/1989-toyota-pic...FUho7Aodd2wAdg

My uhaul snap splice setup rats nest controller is just hanging under my bed between the frame rail and bumper. Don't imagine it has much life in it as it's starting to bulge a little...

That said, my power feed is direct from battery to this controller -- which is good b/c i also run my bed cap's light and power through this feed too.

From a wiring and power standpoint, I'd probably run this controller stock, except for hot power feed -- run that direct, especially if planning to run trailers a lot to prevent any overheating of factory wiring loom.

I think the controllers should fit behind your taillights. There's not a lot of room, but there is some.

4Runner and Truck do not share the same wiring, nor the same plug. So your links and information are completely incorrect and unhelpful.

The 2nd kit shown, the etrailer one is very similar to the kit I hsve so I guess the best thing to do is find a way to get behind the luggage area side panels and run the extra green wire to the right side somehow. those side panel don't have screws as I remember so what's the secret to them? Just pull and hope?
