1988 4runner 22RE engine swap
Has anyone ever tried to swap a 22 RE engine with the current 2.7L 4 cylinder Toyota engine. I am just wondering what it would take to do it. Would I have to change the transmission and transfer case as well? I love my 88 4runner except for the 99hp engine that is in it. Don't get me wrong, I know the 22RE is bullet proof, I was just wondering if it could be done... I've check online and found people swapping it out for a 3.0L v6 and even a 5.7L v8 but I don't want to compromise my gas bill any more than I have to.
