2010 tacoma clutch question

Hi, I helped my friend put a new clutch in his 2010 tacoma 4x4 with 4.0 v6 and 6 spd trans....it doesnt have a pilot bearing in the crank...we got a kit with clutch disc, pressure plate and throwout bearing....i asked about the pilot bearing, said it didnt come with one, his wife called around to a few parts places and they said that 2010 with a 6 spd trans doesnt have one, anyway it was tough getting the clutch disc to be right in the middle of the pressure plate since the line up tool that came with the kit did nothing except hold the disc from falling when putting the pressure plate on...with no pilot bearing the line up tool was way too small for the crank shaft, had to just eyeball the disc when we tightened the pressure plate, first time it was off too much, second time looked better so we went with that and got lucky...how do you guys line it up? seems weird that there is no good way to install it
