a "super stock" 22re

remanned block, new head with oversized valves and RV cam ans stiffer springs, new timing chain and cover with steel guides, etc

as well as a few other odds and ends; I new 130amp alt, new PS pump and gearbox, more than likely a Thorely header... yep, it's gunna be an expensive swap/rebuild I've starting saving already

Any year 22re from '85 to '95.5 will work. So order one for an '88 and it will fit.

lol, yeah, I tell people I'm swapping motors, and the most common responce so far has been "oh you dropp'n in a 3.4?"

NO...

another 22re

but a 1uz would be SICK if gas wasn't so darned expensive...

you could just load like a v16 in the truck bed. That'd be interesting . Might sound like an airplane though. hell of a dragster with an extra thousand pounds in the rear though

22re ftw
I bet a later model 1uz would get better MPG than a 22re with stock gearing and 31x10.5s. Hell, I was getting 15mpg around town in my '93 with that set-up, and that was in 2wd!!!

I'm done highjacking.

screw the v16. Just skip to an aircraft carrier nuclear reactor.

I did the same freaking mistake with the paper header gaskets. They are total junk. About two months after the install the exhaust leak started, and it has only got worst. The down pipe gasket is also leaking.

I will be swapping them out sometime in April though.

Im also rocking the 22RE

I had studs fall out and gaskets fail when I did the HG on my 22RE. I think the issue is most likely with the install, not the paper gasket. I'm using a paper gasket (Felpro I think) on my exhaust manifold (not header, but it shouldn't matter unless the header is warped). Use the "double nut" technique and anti-seize on studs, torque them right (35ft-lbs?), check the header for warp, then install it, torquing it again. As soon as there is the slightest exhaust leak, no gasket I know of will survive. Its now been more than a year with the paper gasket and no issues.
