i have a 89 22re pickup with a efi problem i burned the efi fuse and ig fuse i replaced them now my check engine light won't come on and I'm not getting gas i notice the efi relay gets hot with the ignition on ..does any one have any suggestions ..oh i check the bulb and its good

Did you figure out what caused the fuses to open in the first place?? Someplace you have a bad connection .

Lets hope your ECU is not toast.

 

Why should your Check Engine Light be on? Your description isnt clear on what is happening. A blown fuse wont set the light off.

Are you using a jumper wire on T1 and E1? You will need to find out what caused the fuses to blow in the first place. I know from experience that there are several circuits on the Engine Fuse. Mine was the Reverse light switch was shorting to the tranny causing it to blow and have it listed in my 88 build on Page 14.

As far as not getting fuel, some of the areas to look at is your AFM must be hooked up, your Circuit Opening Relay has to be working which is located behind the passenger side front speaker.

Are you still blowing fuses when you stick a new one in? I dont have any info for the EFI as never had to mess with it.

 

I converted to efi it was originally carbed . I blew the fuse because I jumped the efi relay . The check engine light should always come on when you first open the key then goes away after a couple seconds if there's nothing wrong right. The afm is hooked up unless It's faulty

 

After replacing the fuses they didn't poped again just relay gets hot

 

You jumped the EFI relay you say? I'd try testing that relay and the socket. If that doesn't work start looking at the COR relay that has more control over the fuel pump.


Here's what I have about the EFI relay:


The EFI Main Relay, located in the fuse panel on the RH side of the engine compartment, serves as a source of battery power for several components including the Circuit Opening Relay, (which powers the Fuel Pump), the Fuel Pressure Up VSV and the ECU. The EFI Main Relay is supplied battery current through the EFI fuse and is energized by a signal from the ignition switch. The ECU receives relay input at terminals +B and +B1.

 

Where would the cor relay be located at ?

Here is the location of the Ciruit Opening Relay. Best to get it from behind the passenger speaker. I copied this from my 88s build, This is a pic from a 2nd gen truck and it has been awhile since I worked on a 3rd gen like your truck but assume it is the same.
Circuit Open Relay

 

You had me stumped on the Check Engine Light. I had to go see if it came on when the key is turned on. Here is what I found on my 88 which is mostly a body style change and not so much electrical or mechanical changes that I know of.

With the key on, not cranking the starter, the Check Engine Light is on.

Once the motor is started, the light goes out.

Just curious, does it light or blink when you jump T1 and E1?
