wire colors

trying to follow the fsm wiring. some wires in the truck have dots/rings of various colors, how do i read these in the manual? i know red with white stripe would be r-w but what about red with white stripe and a blue ring every couple inches (or 2 rings)? examples

The only thing that matters is the base color and the stripe. The rings in question aren’t used. If you had a EWD manual that would also give pin locations in the connector.
What year/model? Under dash?

thanks! it threw me off, the wires are passenger side under kick panel where ecu is.

long story - i had a doa built turbo motor put in cause wanted more power (i know i'll never see that money again and went through options of swap but i love my truck and for me it's worth it). the truck runs amazing - pulled 198hp on the dyno at rear wheels with 33's (assuming 20% drivetrain loss thats about 250 at flywheel on just 6psi boost which is around stock). so runs amazing. however shop that installed the ecu hacked the wiring all up and now i dont have dash gauges and lights. figured out some things, but now i need to figure out fuel and volt gauges and some other lights..

i may ask for your help on wiring since you have the same truck -

thanks again for your help.

This might help for now. Did they save any of the connectors that were cut off? What a shame to cut up a loom. If you ever get a chance to buy a EWD manual off eBay at a decent price I highly recommend them. Besides diagrams, it also gives diagnostic data that wasn’t included in the FSM. The average eBay listing is $100, but I held off and got one for $20. I do see one on eBay right now for $65.00 that looks to be in decent shape. Worth considering

If you look at where the wire hits the combination meter in the diagrams I posted you’ll an “A” or “C” in a circle. That’s the connector that plugs into the back of the meter. Further down the wire you’ll find boxes with C1, N3, etc. Those are connectors in the loom. This diagram gives you location of the connectors.

The EWD is gold. Browse through it and see how much additional info you get over the FSM. Good work on repairing your loom! Not easy.
