So over the last three days I dove into the process of fixing the rust problem that was causing my windshield to leak. I already had a crack in the windshield so I went ahead and removed it myself. I used one of those long retractable razor knives and cut easily through the old adhesive. Then came the process of grinding down all of the rust. This was a bit nerve racking but went smoothly with only a few rust holes. I fixed those by getting all the rust I could see and filling the hole with JB Weld epoxy putty. That stuff is awesome. If you can't weld and want something super strong to fill a hole this stuff is the ˟˟˟˟! I will try to post pictures of the process. also, rather that get new chrome trim put in around the windshield, I had my glass guy use a universal black rubber gasket. It looks much better and should function a littler better than that crap chrome

 

Great fix, I'm sure folks would love to get more info and see pics in THIS THREAD, especially a brand and model of the gasket your glass guy used and pics of the final result

Yes, Chrome windshield trim is crap, yes frickin' crap. Traps and retains dirt and moisture, promoting rust. Parts of the body that are easy to rinse after exposure to salt AND that dry quickly do not rust as bad as pinch weld around the windshield where chrome traps dirt.

On mine (see sig), I'll either:
1) Fill gap between glass and body with an adhesive that does not contain acid/corrosive substance so no water ends up IN the interface between glass and pinch-weld, OR
2) Expose the gap between glass and body so it does not trap dirt, it is easy to rinse after a day surfing/kayaking, and it dries quicker.

Unfortunately I do not have the part numbers. I had Safelite Autoglass do the installation. It only cost me $170 because I removed the old glass myself. Literally took the guy 15 minutes to put the new glass in!
