why oh why won't it start?!

ok, guys.

90 runner 3.0. It was having intermittent starting problems. Now however I just get the dreadful *click.*

It has a new yellow top, new wire from battery to fuse box. I pulled the started and had it tested at advance, tested good.. even grounded the starter directly from the battery. Just put in a new ignition switch. At first try it cranked but now it's back to doing nothing.

Any advice?

Overlooked that one. I'll give it a try.

I would consider replacing the starter contacts as well.

Have you tried new battery cables? Helped get rid of both the "click" and autozone starter returns.

Remove and clean those terminals with a good terminal brush (or pocket knife). If they are the slightest bit loose, they'll build up acid fast. I know you said you have new cables, but dirty terminals always cause my truck to "click" rather than start.

Still not getting anything. Changed the relay and nothing. I can jump the starter and it turns over. Any other suggestions. Cables are clean. Terminals are clean.

I agree with TNRabbit, I had the same issue with my starter. Pulled it, took it apart and on of the contacts was completely wore out. If you look on here or on marlins web site there is good info about it. It is also very simple to do, took me about 15 mins once I got the starter out.

Get one of these..

I was getting just the click sound after a new starter installed by my mechanic. I added this relay and I have not had a problem since.

Not sure but I know I had almost the same issue with my 91 pick up and it was the mass air flow sensor found it by luck the plug in was broken and came loose. I changed all the stuff that you had and that was all it was. Worth a shot

I did some rewiring and made some progress. It's clicking but I do not think it is the starter that is clicking. Sounds more like it is coming from the fuse box under the hood. I know there is a fusible link in there for the alternator. If that link goes bad would that prevent the starter from kicking?
