weird noise

i have an 88 pickup with the 22re but when i get the motor to about 3000 to 3500 rps it sounds like the fan is hitting something. there is no check engine light and as soon as i get above that point it is fine again. i checked the oil fan and there is no damge.

My waterpump was apparently loose when I first got my truck. Turned out to be hitting the fan when it came on. Just a thought.

If your fan is hitting the fan shroud under hard acceleration then you need to replace you motor mounts.

I only got a kanooter valve with mine... i knew i should have held out for the muffler bearings... or at least a free bottle of headlight fluid.

Not really , is the play in the fan clutch and if it is driven with the water pump is the play in the pump/pulley ?
And previous post is right as well , if your motors mounts are broken or heavily worn it could be that as well

Are you low on horn oil too? sorry had to do it. look at your fan shroud, if the fan is hitting it at some point, there will be some evidence there..
