Washing the cylinders

This is coming from the DOA thread. I didn't want to hijack it but I have a question.

If you're mixture is too rich and it "Washes" the cylinders, what does that mean, whats it doing to the cylinders?

It means that it washes the oil off the cylinders.. That thin layer of oil is what prevents metal on metal action. You'll end up with glazed cylinder walls... I've never actually seen it happen - might want to ping Jeff Mosk.
