U Bolt Flip Kits

Well, I have been using PB Blaster everyday since I bought the leaf springs in anticipation of the install.

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...roblem-150996/

Today I realized that if I flip the U-bolts, where do my shocks go.

Any pics of what you did would be cool.

Well you can mount them on top of the plates or on top of the axle tube (recommended for clearance and avoiding damage to the shock) But by doing this you will either need a shorter shock (limiting flex/compression) or cut a hole for the shocks top mount to go inside the cab.

Too bad you don't have a body lift, I am going to mount mine on top of the axle at a 45 degree angle towards the center and because of the BL I have plenty of room for my 36 extended 20 compressed shocks. I'll get some pics.

Angling them inward will destabilize your rig on the road. I'd reccomend against doing that unless this is a trail rig. Angling them inward seriously reduces the shocks effectiveness. FYI

You can mount the shocks ontop or on the side of the axle tube and connect the uppers to the stock locations (thats the best way IMO)

You can reuse the upper OEM shock mounts and weld on some new lower shock mounts at 10 and 2 on the axle and maintain a near stock location.

Seems like you can mount your existing shocks the same way as the blue shocks in the above pic. The coils will yield about a 2.5" lift with your new set-up so moving your existing shocks from the lower plate to the axle tube will be just about the same 2.5 inch offset. It does mean that some MIG welding needs to be done for the shock mounts.

The set up above is very similar to the stock set up....

The way there is one shock in front and one behind helps a lot with axle wrap...something else to think about

This just goes to show that when you change one thing, you gotta change 3 others.

Where have I heard that before... Hmmm...

Drew, your rig looks good underneath.

You'll be lucky if you can stop at 3.

I welded a hoop off of the factory crossmember and welded bolts to that. On the axle, I burned on some run of the mill shock mounts. I have about 4" of shock shaft exposed when parked on level ground. The bumpstops look close to the plate but they compress a bit. Kind of like a poormans air- bump. Good luck with your project.

yup, and I wished everybody made shock mounts for their flip kits.
Oh well, I got time. I may not use your flip kit right away. I got a welder for $20.oo and need a supply cord for it to hook up to 220V. Then I wanna learn to use it.

Anybody have any manuals or other materials for Dayton Welders. Links would be ok too.

Thanks, Phil

Don't be afraid to post up if you have any pics of yours, or have done this, or have info on Dayton Welders.

There's alot of people looking. Enjoy because I will post up my experiences, with pics, doing the shock, leaf spring swap, ZUK coils, and flip kit. I am everyman. Someone with no experience in doing any of this. So stay tuned.

Maybe i should have posted a different thread for the welder.

My set up is very similar to SteveMcQ's.....

Not sure if you'll have room under yours though but it might give you an idea... you could always lower the top bar and angle the shocks in a bit more

I am thinking that with the new leaf springs and ZUK coils maybe I can wait on installing the flip kit. Buying some new lower shock mounts will have to wait a couple weeks. I'll see what I can get away with when I start this project.
Very muscular squirrel.

Thanks, Phil
